BYD Turns Charging Stations Into Gas Stations!

Times:2026/4/17

On March 5, BYD globally unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center, which can accommodate over 60,000 spectators. Meanwhile, the Song Ultra EV, the first B-segment SUV equipped with the new battery and flash charging tech, officially opened for pre-orders at a price range of 155,000 to 185,000 yuan. Pre-order customers will also enjoy 18 months of free flash charging benefits.
The most eye-catching highlight of the Song Ultra EV lies in one key figure: charging for 5 minutes boosts power from 10% to 70%. This means on a family road trip, you can nearly fully recharge the car during a quick rest stop break. Or when shopping at a mall, grabbing a cup of coffee is all it takes to go from low battery to nearly full charge — it only needs 9 minutes to charge from 10% to 97%.
Charging Anxiety Becomes a Thing of the Past
What worries EV buyers most? Long-distance travel difficulties, trouble finding charging piles, and especially long charging waits of up to an hour once a pile is found.
The biggest selling point of the Song Ultra EV is its flash charging capability. Powered by BYD’s newly launched second-generation Blade Battery, its charging speed is greatly improved over the previous generation. Official data shows it can charge to 70% in 5 minutes and 97% in 9 minutes at normal temperature. Even in Northeast China at minus 30°C, it only takes an extra 3 minutes to finish charging.
With such performance, the old saying that “EVs cannot travel beyond Shanhaiguan” can now be laid to rest.
In terms of range, the model is rated at 710 kilometers. In theory, it can drive all the way from Hangzhou to Wuhan to enjoy cherry blossoms without needing a mid-journey charge. While real-world driving will differ from the official figure, it proves the vehicle has solid core performance.
Upgraded Intelligent Driving
Beyond fast charging, the Song Ultra EV features another major highlight: advanced intelligent driving.
It is not fully autonomous driving that lets the car drive entirely on its own, but more practical for daily scenarios — such as navigating narrow urban alleys.
Many old residential compounds and urban villages across China have extremely narrow roads where even two cars can barely pass each other. The laser radar version of the Song Ultra EV (an optional upgrade of 9,900 yuan) can handle ultra-narrow passages with merely 60 cm of extra space on each side of the car width, cruising through slowly without the driver needing to nervously steer the wheel.
For instance, in urban traffic jams, the vehicle can independently judge whether to switch to a side road for a smoother commute. This function is especially practical for novice drivers.
Spacious Interior & Impressive Chassis Performance
There are many pure electric SUVs in the 150,000-yuan segment, yet the Song Ultra EV stands out in multiple aspects.
First comes space. With a wheelbase of 2,840 mm, BYD positions it as a B-segment large five-seater SUV, offering generous legroom for both front and rear passengers.
Next is the chassis. It comes standard with the Cloud C intelligent damping system, which automatically adjusts suspension softness and hardness according to road conditions for a smooth ride on rough roads and stable handling at high speeds. This configuration was once only available on much more expensive models and has now been introduced to the 150,000-yuan market segment.
Another thoughtful safety feature: high-speed tire blowout stabilization. Even if a tire bursts at 140 km/h, the system responds within milliseconds to keep the vehicle steady and prevent drifting off course. Though drivers hope never to use it, the feature brings invaluable peace of mind.
Rich Color Options & Enhanced Configurations
The Song Ultra EV is available in six exterior colors: Rock Gray, Snow Mountain White, Mist Purple, Star River Beige, Palm Green, and Obsidian Black. Two interior color themes are offered: Sea Salt Gray and Dusk Cloud Gray.
Premium configurations include front seat ventilation, heating and massage functions, plus a queen-style passenger seat with comfortable reclining angles. It is equipped with a 15.6-inch central control large screen and supports four-zone voice interaction, enabling it to respond to voice commands from rear passengers as well.
It also features a convenient knock-to-unlock front trunk function.
The Song Ultra EV Poised to Be a Bestseller
The Song Ultra EV is scheduled for official launch in late March. Based on released specifications, its strengths are clear:
It solves charging pain points with flash charging, eases urban driving stress with intelligent driving, meets family travel demands with spacious layout and advanced chassis, and packages all these premium features at an affordable price.
Few models in the 150,000–180,000-yuan range offer such ultra-fast charging, long battery life, and comprehensive configurations. All eyes are now on its real-world performance after launch.
